American and German weddings are actually very similar, but the differences are in the details. If you want to have a wedding ceremony that feels American, then the answer lies, of course, in the music. There are many wonderful songs by American musicians that are played again and again at weddings. I grew up on a small farm in Michigan where country music and old classic rock n' roll was the soundtrack. These are the songs that remind me personally of home and are very American. Songs with passion and feeling, such as Roberta Flack's "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face", or the classic Elvis ballad "Love Me Tender" and also contemporary songs in the indie folk style such as Mumford and Sons "Awake my Soul" or Iron & Wines "Such Great Heights" are romantic songs for a wedding ceremony. In the evening at the party I love to play songs like "Let's have a Party" by Wanda Jackson or Johnny Cash with my rockabilly band and bring the hall to a boil. I am always happy to be able to play the beautiful songs from my homeland at German weddings and to bring an American atmosphere to the festival.
